Radiography - Iridium and X-ray

Radiography is used to produce a visual picture on a radiography film.
Steel Inspection & Tesing Ltd. uses both Iridium and X-ray.

X-ray is generally used for steel 1/8" thick or less,
or a material less dense than steel, such as
aluminum. X-ray gives a very clear picture showing
extreme sensitivity.
Iridium is used for material such as
steel usually over 1/8" thick.

Ultrasonics

This non-destructive testing method employs
high frequency sound to detect internal
discontinuities in the part under test. It is
generally used for the inspection of weld
discontinuities, plate laminations and shaft
inspections.

Ultrasonic Thickness Testing

This type of ultrasonic examination is used to determine the thickness of a material to within
1/1000th of an inch. This method is employed to determine the thickness of such items such
as piping and storage vessels.
Steel Inspection & Testing Ltd. provides on going monitered thickness testing programs
on piping and storage vessels to companies such as Oxy Vinyls Canada Inc. and
I.N.C.O. Ltd.

Magnetic Particle

This non-destructive testing method is used for the detection of surface and near-to-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic particle examination is generally performed on welds, crane hooks, shafts, stress areas of lifting devices or any other ferromagnetic specimen which may have cause for concern at its surface or near-to-surface. A variety of magnetic particle methods are employed such as dry powder, wet colour contrast, or wet flourescent.
